AIA NSW Chapter President Joe Agius said that the prize “acknowledges an individual who, while running a highly successful and award winning practice, has made a sustained contribution to the betterment of the profession in NSW over an extended period of time”.
The award citation went on to list Steve Kennedy’s extraordinary contributions to the architectural profession over the years, including:
- Establishing architectural practice networks in the 1990s
- Creating the Continuing Professional Development program in the NSW Chapter in 2004 and running it continuously until 2012.
- Helping found the Sydney Architecture Festival and actively nurturing in its early years.
- Being a Chapter councillor for over a decade and a chair or member of numerous State and National committees.
- Teaching architecture and design at Sydney University, UTS and the UNSW.
- Membership of numerous government working groups, advisory boards and design review panels.
- His current positions as National President of the Association of Consulting Architects, a board member of the Australian Construction Industry Forum and a director of The Australian Council of Built Environment Design Professions.
